Tuesday Book Post

Here are a few books we are reading now...

The Boy On Fairfield Street
How Ted Geisel Grew Up To Become Dr. Seuss
by Kathleen Krull with paintings by Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher.
Nina
wrote about this book, and we just had to look for it at our library.
She is much more eloquent than I, so check out what she had to say.

The Sea Chest by Toni Buzzeo and Mary Grandpre has also been on Nina's blog and others as well.
I could see why when we finally were able to get our hands on it
from our library. The paintings bring this tale spun from an old legend alive, and the author spins
the tale so well.

Do Re Mi If you can read music,Thank Guido d'Arezzo
by Susan L Roth in association with Angelo Mafucci.
Princess and I really enjoyed this book about the "Father of Music".We really enjoyed
the artwork as well.I picked up this book when I saw the title because Princess has been
singing "Do Re Mi" all day for about a week, I'm not even sure why.

Possum's Harvest Moon by Anne Hunter
Possum wakes up and sees the harvest moon rising over the meadow and decides to have a party.
Everyone is too busy getting ready for winter to attend, but soon the brightness of the moon makes all
the creatures take pause. How could they miss Possum's Harvest Moon Soiree?
This book delighted us both!

The Lemon Sisters by Andrea Cheng and illustrated by Tatjana Mai-Wyss
If you head over to your library to pick up any of these books, make it this one.
This is a sweet story about three little girls playing in the snow, while their elderly
neighbor watches and remembers playing in the snow with her own two sisters who have long since
moved away.I can't talk more about it without giving it away, just trust me and go get it,make a cup of tea
and read it to your child (or children). If you have a sister, you may want to invite her over to hear it too.
I can't wait for it to snow!!

Through Georgia's Eyes by Rachel Rodriguez and illustrated by Julie Paschkis
I've always been a Georgia O'Keeffe fan, so I had to bring this book home from the library
when I saw it.The cut-paper collages used to show her life and work are really cool.
Princess enjoys art, and I enjoyed showing her more about one of my favorite artists.

I have a few more books, but no more time to blog today, so I will do it another day.
Now, go read!!

Oh, I'm intrigued now about the Lemon Sisters. You find so many very interesting books. Your Princess must have an impressive body of knowlege in all kinds of different subjects.

I'm intrigued about the Lemon Sisters too- I hope my library has it! We loved Possum's Harvest Moon- I think there's another book about Possum too. And I love Georgia O'Keefe too, so I'll definitely be checking on that one- thanks!

I'm going to order Possum's Harvest Moon. It sounds like a book we will enjoy.

I loved the illustrations in the Lemon Sisters. I know the author Andrea Cheng. She used to be a patron at the library where I worked. I have enjoyed many of her books. P might like Grandfather Counts and Goldfish and Chrysanthemums for the Chinese element. Cheng is married to a Chinese man but is from Hungarian descent. Anna the BookBinder is my favorite picture book by her. She wrote a young adult fiction book entitled Marika about the invasion of Budapest and the plight of the Jewish resisdents based on her mother's experience. It is a ggod read.

Thanks for the shout out. Glad you enjoyed the Boy on Fairfield Street.

That list looked so good I printed out the whole post to put in my library bag.

What a coincidence - we also checked out The Sea Chest last week (also on Nina's recommendation). I need to see the Dr. Seuss one. I should hope my branch has it since Seuss spent most of his later years as a San Diegan.

Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do not use compulsion, but let early education be a sort of amusement; you will then be better able to discover the child's natural bent .
