It's snowing!

It's snowing here, and I was getting really excited, until the PSEG guy came to read our meter and told me it's expected to be about 2 inches of slush! Bummer. I wanted a foot of snow!It was nice to see him as he was the regular meter reader in our area before and for the first year of Princess's life.He was amazed at how big she is now! (For those of you who don't know, she was just under 5 lbs when we brought her home)
Princess and I want to make at least one snowman this year and we love a good reason to stay inside with a stack
of books and cup of hot cocoa (for her) and tea or coffee (for me). We will be making bread today as part of our school day. She loves the measuring involved with baking and kneading makes us both happy.
The rest of our school day will involve reading "snow" themed books, another reason I'm excited it is snowing today.
I have a bunch of crafts based on the books we are reading planned, but I've learned she may not want to do them all or may need more. We'll see how much we do when the day is over. We slept in and took our time getting out
of bed today so we are having a late start.I'll post pics later in the day as my "student" is calling for "teacher" right now.

I'm looking forward to reading about the winter book projects. I have stacks of winter books to use and we just had our first snowfall. I'm not fond of standing in snow let alone playing in it. The problem with so many of the winter books is it encourages too much outdoor play. ;) Citcat really enjoyed the snow while I shovelled the driveway.

Don't you just love the regular people in your life. We feel blessed to have special friends at the post office, Goodwill, the library and the coffee shop. And of course the UPS man. In the country you can't live without him.

I meant to ask the other day. At what age did you put up the world & US map in Princess' room? I wonder if Citcat would be able to understand it's purpose. She can find China & Taiwan on a map with a bit of help but that is just a good memory.

My homeschool buddies and I are all posting pics of our "home schools" as part of our idea sharing.

Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do not use compulsion, but let early education be a sort of amusement; you will then be better able to discover the child's natural bent .
