Weekly updates

This is the wall color in my kitchen. We are still not sure we like it,
but it needed to be painted, my sister got this Benjamin Moore paint off freecycle, we
used it. Here is a bit of what we've been doing this month,
We had family time on New Years Day, helped
Great Grandma dust her Knick knacks, learned
a bit about Betsy Ross here.
Tried to make cream puffs on National Cream Puff Day.
We were not successful, no photos exist.
We played a lot of games like this one
We learned a bit more about Alaska using a travel guide
Great Grandma and Poppa had from their trip there and watched a video
from same trip to celebrate Alaska Admission Day. I tried to convince Princess
that watching our taped season of Deadliest Catch would be an excellent addition to our
lesson plan, but she did not agree. (Yes, I watched while she was busy later)
As it was also National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day,for desert we had

some Chocolate covered cherries!
I take my role as Culture Tsar VERY seriously! ;-)
For National Spaghetti Day, we ate spaghetti.
(You thought I was gonna say we made our own..didn't ya?)
We learned a bit about Utah here.
We had a book about George Washington Carver to use
on George Washington Carver's Recognition Day, but I don't know where Princess left
it .She took it last week when I was "hunter/gathering" our supplies for the week.
We also filled the feeders on "Bird Day". Which meant in our case, "we" forgot all about
poor G.W.C. Recognition Day. I will do my best to catch up with him during
Black History Month (February)I promise. You may all be disappointed, but the birds were happy.
Princess worked on her "pizza" skills, both making, and eating.:-D
We did a coloring picture in our map book about New Mexico
to celebrate
New Mexico Admission Day , with sliced apples and peanut butter for a snack
to talk about Apple Tree Day.I was very erudite..."today is Apple Tree Day..here ,eat some apples" ;-)
We did not mention that the First Train Station Opened on the 7th.
The 8th was both World Literacy Day and Elvis's B-Day .
We read every day, and so Princess has
a pretty good idea of how important it is.
In honor of Elvis's B-Day, we played some online games, colored,
listened to some music, and ate an Elvis inspired menu.
Here is our PB & Banana sandwich for lunch (see 1-08-09 blog post for links)Princess decorating some cupcakes for desert
We did nothing about
National Static Electricity Day, which was today.
We did however do our regular maths, reading, and Princess designed
her own neighborhood.

It has everything a neighborhood needs, homes, a library, gardens,a park, the ocean, an apartment building (like Honey's) for the "old people" to live happily in,a jail, two cars, a police car and a limo. We live on a main road, so we see police cars and limos frequently enough for her to know they are around. Then she "taught" me to make a craft. It was a nice change of pace.

It is a "snowman mask". This is her asking, "are you scared?"She is downstairs playing drums to Farmer Dad's guitar. If I have one more glass of wine, it might just sound like Neil Young.

By all means, have another glass and get down with your inner unknown legend!

WOW! I am impressed. You do keep busy. I do have a cream puff recipe if you would like to try it... it may be different than the one you tried. :-)

Busy, busy! I love the plate and matching cup Princess used for her sandwich- it looks vintage.
Monopoly has been neglected here- I'll dig it out for this weekend. Thanks for all the marvelous links :0)

I love how you "celebrate" different days to learn. If only I were organized enough to do something like that...

I like the color! On my monitor it looks like it exactly matches the inner border on the rooster plate. It's a nice cheerful come-sit-in-my-kitchen color!

Lots of fun stuff! You can tell Princess that we thought the snowman mask was scary!!

Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do not use compulsion, but let early education be a sort of amusement; you will then be better able to discover the child's natural bent .
