Kindergarten Days 7,8, and 9

Clearly I have been slacking off around here.
I really thought I was posting too...maybe I never
took them out of "draft".Oh well.
We have been busy playing board games, coloring,
counting,reading,drawing,reading,building massive castles
to protect our fairies and princesses.
Listening to stories on tape, reading, and well you get the idea.
We also spent some time learning about fire safety and how to "stop, drop and roll".
Princess also spent some time drawing various "sea life" from a poster in our
"makeshift classroom". She came up with it entirely on her own in the middle of
a "planned lesson", and I let the wisdom of my blog friends flow over my inner
"freak out" and just went with it. I will post some pictures here.
We are hoping to get outside a bit today to see what havoc the storms of Yesterday
brought us.It has cooled off considerably here, so we should probably pull out some warm jackets
from storage.

Wonderful learning! I think it's great you allowed Princess to take the lesson in a different direction. That's one of the HUGE advantages to homeschooling:) My personal feeling is creativity so much more important than structured academics, they will get plenty of that down the road, but creativity time is precious, hang onto it and follow their lead:)

Reading, learning, Reading, coloring. Yep, that is what our best days look like as well. I'm starting to wonder if all this reading is really teaching Citcat enough. Reading makes up the bulk of what we are doing.

It is down right chilly here. No storms but only 40 degrees the last couple of mornings and only in the 60's again today.

I was starting to wonder why you hadn't posted. ;) Have a great weekend.

It sounds like you and Princess have been busy- children can learn a lot from "just" reading! I absolutely agree with you about the importance of creativity right now, and good for you for letting Princess take the lesson where she wanted it to go. Sometimes letting go a bit can be hard! Have a good weekend!

Thanks Gals!
We have been in a dreamy,
book filled fog the last few days
with a bit of fun and games tossed in. I honestly thought I had blogged
after Monday...truly "fog" was the right word.

Ah yes, that wonderful storm that changed our weather from 90s to 60s in a heartbeat. I wish our weeks were as productive as yours.... it's ok - I still have 2 years. (although that doesn't stop the inner freak out)

What a beautiful little princess indeed. And your cat looks almost exactly like my cat, Benny Boom Bomb, who sleeps in the same position. But the thing that bowls me over is that you like Louis Prima, Willie Nelson and Allison Krause. Now, what are the odds that two people would both like that combination of singers?

May I recommend Joe Scruggs for kid's songs? His CD with In the Bahamas on it still cracks me up everytime I hear it.

Oh, and not to be pushy, but 51 years later I'm still suffering from my first grade teacher telling me that coloring the sun purple and the grass yellow was wrong. It left me permanently coloring-impaired. Maybe that's a big part of why we unschool. I dunno.

Shine On,
Lill

Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do not use compulsion, but let early education be a sort of amusement; you will then be better able to discover the child's natural bent .
