Sensory Tables

Princess has been having a lot of fun playing in our version
of a sensory table. Her recent favorite is to put baking soda
and add a little water and bit of vinegar (for the foam) and put
all her "sea creatures" in it. She pretends she is in the ocean.
The great thing is everything that gets splattered smells fresh
and clean once wiped down.
What have you used in a sensory table? We'd love to hear
your favorites or failures.

Rice is our old standby, but my son's favorite is shredded mini wheats. He piles them in the back of small trucks, picks them up with pliers (a crane), and builds small structures until they topple over.
Last night I filled a big tub with tupperware lids, and gave them each a hair clip and small container. They clipped the lids and dumped them into smaller containers.

Rice. You wouldn't believe the hours of free time I have gained from a ten pound bag of rice. Check out Lapaz Farm for some of her sensory & Montessori ideas.

Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do not use compulsion, but let early education be a sort of amusement; you will then be better able to discover the child's natural bent .
