"Dona Nobis Pacem".

I was over visiting with Mom Unplugged
this morning, and I saw this
and I wanted in.I could not however "personalize" my globe thingy..oh well.

I try to keep politics out of this blog,
not, because I don't have an opinion on
all matters political, because I do .
Those who know me in real life, are probably tired of hearing them all
(you can stop nodding now,Nai).

I will however share this with you all, with all the good intentions in
the world to not offend, but perhaps to enlighten.

We must ,each of us,make it our goal to achieve world peace.
No, I'm not talking about a write in,e-mail in,phone all your Senators
(all though they know I love to do that!)campaign.
Do you want to know how I think it will be achieved?
By minding our own business! Yes, radical I know.

No, I'm not talking about ignoring injustice around the world,
I'm talking about starting at home first.Taking responsibility for
our own actions, and changing our personal behaviors first.
That's right r-e-s-p-o-n-s-i-b-i-l-i-t-y.
Asking a lot of us all aren't I? (yes, us..I'm not perfect either)

We watch Oprah and cry at the heroic deeds of others,
the neighbor who goes out of their way to help, the firemen,
but when someone we know needs help, we are "too busy".
We judge them instead. They wouldn't need my help if they had only done the right thing,
the right way (hey- it crosses my mind too).Maybe we should ask ourselves
if we would care more, offer to help, write a check, if Leo DiCaprio asked us to.
I talk with people every day who talk about making the world
a better place, they write a check, attend fund raisers, buy the t-shirt
for whatever crime against humanity is in the news this week (and I don't need to tell
even those of you without a tv there are more than enough atrocities being committed
to have more than one per week). But they have no time to visit an elderly relative.
It never occurs to them to pick up a gallon of milk for the family next door who they know is struggling
to make ends meet.
They talk about global warming and buying a Prius and they throw their recyclables in the trash because it's just "too hard" to walk a foot further to the recycling bin.
They want to save the whales or the bears, but they spray every bug that flies into their yard,
because they are afraid of being stung by something.
They will buy organic produce with their drano and eat it on their patio while the Chemlawn guy is spraying the lawn so it stays green ..in summer.

They talk about crimes committed against children with horror and take a small breath and call their kid
in to dinner with "What's wrong with you stupid, I called you twice already. Get in here before I..."
Not helping folks, do you think "Stupid" is going to grow up and care about others? Really?
Do you think it doesn't really matter if we kill every living thing around us and poison the water? Really?

We are creating our future every day..it is not pre-ordained, we have a choice to live in peace
with our planet, with our families, with strangers from all over the world or to self-destruct.

What choice will you make today?

Me? Well, I am going back to minding my own business.
I bid you peace.

I agree with the fact that people are 'judged' worthy, or not, before they are helped. A line from The Illuminated Rumi that I try to contemplate frequently that helps me to avoid judging folks is this: "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing is a field. I will meet you there."

Dr Taylor teaches us how to attain deep inner peace - easily, simply, without drugs, anytime we want it. Forgive me for doing everything I can to be sure everyone reads this book and sees this video, but I think all of us benefit and in the larger sense, if everyone reads this, our world will benefit in a very large way.

Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do not use compulsion, but let early education be a sort of amusement; you will then be better able to discover the child's natural bent .
