National Backyard CampOut

was almost entirely rained out again this year.
We did get our tent up, and set up our campsite.
The thunderstorms came as we started dinner,
and we went inside to wait them out.
They stopped, the sun came out, and back outside we went
to make a fire for desert. S'mores? Mmmm, yes please.
Princess and Farmer Dad and I had a lovely time playing
Trouble and Uno in the tent. We snacked and laughed,
and the storms started rumbling again, so we headed inside.
By the time it ended, we were too tired to even go outside for our pillows,
so we stayed inside.
We did head out to listen to the birds early this morning,
it was lovely from inside the tent. I think we'll vacation here again.

That looks like such fun - even with a thunderstorm interrupting! Doug has been talking about doing this with Tatum this summer. Right now the Golden State is on fire, so we'll have to wait for the smoke to clear. We've had to spend this entire week indoors :( Thanks for sharing!

Camping in the backyard seems doable. Perhaps there is hope for my children. ;) It looks like you had a great time.

Is Ginger really as big as P? It looks like in the one photo of them together.

How fun. I saw your smores, now I know how I can make them and make a few at a time. I like the tin trsy idea.

Oh what fun. I think that the somores have to be the best part of camping. I can wait to see how the boys do next month with camping. It is going to be so much fun.

Camping in the rain is mucho fun. You should try to just stick it out in the tent next time. My all time favorite campout was in early november. Dropped into the Lower 20s, freezing rain outside all night long. It was just magical to be lulled to sleep by the storms outside and wake up to a gorgeous wet world in the morning. :D

awesome! I totally forgot to do it this year. I was bummed. But Z had her friend sleep over and that threw me off. Next year we'll do it.

Looks like you guys had a great time. We camped out too, and the hubby even voluntered to stay indoors to watch the baby. HOWEVER- he failed to turn off the sprinkler system, so you can imagine our surprise "shower" at about 5am :) Oh well...it was still a good experience.

Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do not use compulsion, but let early education be a sort of amusement; you will then be better able to discover the child's natural bent .
