500 posts ago...

I was wondering if I had enough to say to keep a blog going. I had a web site for pictures of Princess to share with family and friends, many of whom are scattered across the four corners of the globe, but it had become difficult to navigate and update, and so I decided to look for another way. A bunch of Moms on the yahoo homeschool preschool group that I belong to, started talking about the best way to share pictures with each other of what we were doing and how. Somehow, we hit upon Blogger. I am so glad that we did. Many of those Moms are still blogging today, although not all of them update as often as I would like. Don't get your knickers in a twist gals, I am not going to call you out right here in this public forum, you know who you are, so go update before i change my mind! ;-) Blogging added yet more wonderful women in my life, so many of whom I now proudly call friend. Each of you hold a special place in my heart, I hope you know that. It is easy to forget that although homeschooling has become more common, we are certainly not, mainstream. Easy to forget, because we have built a haven here in the blogosphere, filled with a diverse group of parents who are warm and caring, snarky and funny, ingenious and creative, thoughtful and accepting of others whether we are like them, or not.And that is just the ones who read and comment here! Imagine if the whole world were like us? I must stop here, to give those of you who just spit your morning coffee out your noses and onto your computer screens a chance to wipe them down. Seriously, there have been many days when my blog world kept me going. Days, when you were the only other homeschoolers I knew of and I needed your guidance and support more than air itself. You gave it. I can not thank you all enough.

A haven is so accurate. Sometimes I forget that many around me don't know about this great blogosphere and then I feel sorry for them. I like finding things to blog about and love seeing what others who are like me, or not like me are doing as well. 500??? I wonder if I will make it there one day...

What a lovely post with beautiful pictures. Isn't it funny, I count my weblogging friends as real friends, and they are as real, concrete, clear in my mind as my IRL friends.

Congratulations on 500 posts!

What a lovely post. Blogging makes that great-big world seem closer, and it's wonderful to find people of like (or similar) mind. It's a great source of support for me, too.

Congrats on your 500th post -- looking forward to many, many more.

Oh we have you to thank. I so enjoy finding one of your posts in my Google Reader. And like Patience, I count you as more than a blog friend. 500 posts, wow!

BTW, surely I am not one of those gals you are calling out. Lately, it has been so much easier to comment than write a post. ;)

WHat a lovely post. And hey, I am not one of those women who don't update *wink. I feel so bad for not being ontop of it. You are amazing kate. Your blog defintely keeps me smiling and when I am down I know I can make a cup of coffee and read your blog. Your post was very well put. :)

Oh Kate....you are so sweet. It is your blog that keeps me going. I read yours and see how much fun you and P are having and it inspires me. I am always trying to do more with the boys because of you and your blog. You are leaving comments on mine saying things like "you want to do school with us". I promise that the feeling is mutual. I promise to post more and even comment more from now on. It helps that blogger has the prepost option. :)

Thanks again for all you do. You are an inspiration to everyone who knows you. Thank you for being my friend. Congratulations on the 500 posts.

Can I say "thank you" again? I sit here with a tear in my eye and joy in my heart..and a fresh cup of coffee
and slice of sweet bread to visit with all my friends while P. conducts some science experiments at my side.

I'm late to the party again!
Not only haven't I been posting all week -- I haven't been reading friends' blogs either.

At least I had an excuse this time -- my internet connection goes down whenever the humidity spikes.

Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do not use compulsion, but let early education be a sort of amusement; you will then be better able to discover the child's natural bent .
