Not so sunny Sunday

Sunday started out looking like it would be more like Saturday,
and we had already made plans to go to Ocean Fun Days
at Sandy Hook with our homeschool friends, if it was not raining.
We all met up at our house, and headed down the shore. The kids got to have their picture taken and do a craft,
and right after they both played this game
the rains came down.
The good news is that P and B both caught a fish!
Hopefully we'll get another chance to see all the park has to offer on another trip with them.
We decided to have them follow us back home and have an impromptu
play date here instead. The three girls played in P's room and in the "classroom".
And my room,under the bed.
They were hunting for kitties but found only dust bunnies as Alley and Pumpkin were hibernating
somewhere and would not come out to play. The afternoon ended in a meltdown,
Princess had reached her tired, low blood sugar, can't stand humans on the planet with me
stage and naturally freaked out more when they left, because now her friends were GONE.
Oh my! It is hard not to be embarrassed when our kids act out like this, even when we know
they all do it occasionally. She lay on her bed, under the pillows for a while and then came out for dinner
and some t.v. viewing. She was fine the rest of the evening.Playing nicely, looking at books, snuggling.

Boy do I know how you feel :) Even though I know others go through the meltdowns too, it helps to hear someone talk about it!

I've had a few of those "can't stand humans" moments myself.

It sounds like it was otherwise a great day.

Just remember all kids act out now and again. its no reflection on parenting! :)

Just repeat this mantra to yourself over and over, "it will get better". Your child will grow out of meltdowns and be an absolute angel with perfect, calm behaviour ... for about six years. And then she'll hit the teenaged years. I have heard it said that this stage of childhood is just to harden parents up for adolescence.

Looks like a lot of fun was had despite a dreary day! I hope we can plan to meet you all down there one of these days!

Sorry Princess got so tired. Poor thing. (both of you.)

What a shame the outing had to be cut short by rain. And I'm with Steph- we all know children have meltdowns, but it really does help to hear others talking about them! I'm glad she calmed down in time to have a nice evening.

My homeschool buddies and I are all posting pics of our "home schools" as part of our idea sharing.

Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do not use compulsion, but let early education be a sort of amusement; you will then be better able to discover the child's natural bent .
