Crying in my tea

Oh my goodness, Princess just came over to me
and handed me a "card" she made me..

It says..

and then I open it, and it is a "pop-up" card.

I asked how she did it, she goes over to the coffee table

where she has been working to make "party hats"

for later today, and comes back with the cover of a pad

of construction paper. She says.."I followed the directions."

(here is where I start crying,) she says,"see, here it says, "how to make a pop up card"..

blah, blah, blah.I couldn't even hear the rest of what she was reading, because,at that moment,
I realize two things..

  1. My kid is now reading independently,

  2. the little twerp is perfectly capable of following directions!!

She is off to make the other projects listed..after reading me all the steps..by herself. *sob!*

Oh that is such a powerful and wonderful moment. The card is darling.

You are doing a great job teaching her. And congratulations to P too!

That is stunning. Tink has only just this year shown any ability to follow instructions on her own and shes 12. When you have a child with a learning disability you really realize how huge this is! What a leap! I see an independent learner emerging in your little princess. I am so happy for you and her! You just cry all you want to, this is a huge milestone!

Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do not use compulsion, but let early education be a sort of amusement; you will then be better able to discover the child's natural bent .
