Cooking Figs

Farmer Dad went to the Rutgers game with a friend of ours so we are quietly
doing our own thing on this breezy Saturday afternoon.
I've spent a good deal of time today cooking figs.
We had our tea outside today as the weather was so lovely
and Princess played and we picked flowers to press and
talked about Autumn. We have a ton of figs (I'm sure it's an exaggeration)
and I need to do something with them before they rot.
We can only eat them so quickly. I am also working on tomatoes today.
Princess is playing with some of her new toys in the living room while I work.
She gave up trying to work with me about 10,000 figs ago.
I will have a book post on Monday if anyone is interested, I made a huge
score last night at the library.

Figs do rot quickly!! I was knee deep in figs a couple of months ago. I don't envy you position.

LOL, I remembered, and printed out your directions earlier today. ;-)

Hi! I know nothing about figs, or how to cook them, or what to store them in, or what the heck to do with them after?? My friend has a tree and she offered us some. Can you enlighten me a little? Pretty please?

Hi Brit, check out Wysteria's blog (link to right) she has directions for canning them. I usually slice
them and serve with fresh mozzarella
and olive oil, or over goat cheese.
We have also cooked them (lightly)
with pork chops..it was delish.

I do not think that I have ever had a fig. I think that I should try them some time. Those are great pictures of P. I can not wait to read your book list. I should have my new entry up in the next day or so.

I haven't had fresh figs in a very long time, but I made fig bars a few weeks ago that used up about 3 cups of dried figs. DH took them on his business trip and said everyone who had one raved about them and said they were so much better than Fig Newtons. I can't take credit as I followed a recipe exactly, but I almost wished I'd eaten more than one before giving away the rest.

Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do not use compulsion, but let early education be a sort of amusement; you will then be better able to discover the child's natural bent .
